Grand Theft Auto 2: Retro-Futuristic Crime in Anywhere City

Grand Theft Auto 2 is an iconic sequel developed by DMA Design, now known as Rockstar North. The game takes place in Anywhere City, a dystopian metropolis divided into Downtown, Residential, and Industrial districts. Each district has its own gangs, atmosphere, and mission structure. The top-down camera perspective keeps the classic arcade style of the early series. Despite its simple viewpoint, the city feels alive and reactive.

Protagonist and Core Objective

You play as Claude Speed, a small-time criminal trying to rise through the ranks. He works for rival syndicates to earn money and influence across the city. The main objective in each district is to accumulate enough points to unlock the next area. Progression depends on completing missions and maintaining good relationships with specific gangs. The story eventually leads to a final confrontation involving the city’s major crime leaders.
